Bees on your property

A few questions before we talk

We get a lot of people asking about bees on their land, and everyone wants something a little different. Some want pollinators, some want honey, some want to learn to keep bees themselves. Your answers tell us what fits you, whether that's hosting our hives or learning to keep your own. It takes about 5 minutes. We'll get back to you to talk it through, with no obligation either way.

About you

What are you hoping to get out of this? Check all that apply

Good to know: a new hive usually spends its first year building up, so there's often little or no extra honey until the second year.

How involved do you want to be?
Who would own the bees and equipment?
What are you expecting on cost?
Have you kept bees before?

About the property

What's on and around the property? Check all that apply
Can a truck get within about 50 feet of where the hives would go?
Is there a sunny, level spot away from walkways, driveways, and the neighbors' yards?
Is there water within a quarter mile (pond, creek, stream)?
Do you or your neighbors spray crops or lawns?
Is anyone in your household allergic to bee stings?
Will kids, pets, or livestock be near the hive spot?
Is there an HOA or township rule about keeping bees?
Have you seen bears around the property?

If so, the hives will need an electric fence. That's common in Central PA and something we handle.
